Description and General Objectives
Many great Chinese medical doctors consider traditional exercises and physical culture to be the most refined reflexion of not only traditional Chinese Medicine, but of Chinese culture in general.
The science of exercise in Chinese medicine has been the subject of research and development for countless generations. Following the principles laid out in the Huangdi Neijing Suwen, a great variety of physical practices has been developed in China for maintaining health, healing injury and improving quality of life.
A number of them are applicable to our modern way of living. Using a system of neigong passed down by practitioners in the art of xingyiquan, this course will touch on fundamental concepts of exercise as executed from a Chinese medicine standpoint, and will study specific exercises to develop and maintain a functional human system.
A key element will be the interaction between the effects of the exercises on anatomical structures and on energetic systems. We will discuss exercises and strategies applicable to specific conditions and injuries and their relation to modern concepts of anatomy and physiology.
